One dreary day
I set out for a stroll
Up upon the knoll
Where the gravestones stand
As I neared the place
A dark and distant dirge
Assulted mine ears
Which melancholy tone
Froze my every bone
With morbid Curiousity
And vulgar Interest
As my guide
I stepped through the gate
As I drew nearer
So the song grew drearier
And as I rounded a particularily large stone, of a design most plain
I saw there standing a man
With the comportment of a ghost
This gastly figure
Turned with pointed finger
Aimed at my heart
As his dismal dirge drifted on
Then he spoke
Words I shan't repeat
For they are death to all who hear
And as he stepped
Toward my quivering frame
I turn and ran from that dismal plane
Yet through every rain
I hear
That deathly song
In my ear
